Tessa’s Top Tips for Being a Dog Guest at Northside Farm

Hello, lovely humans and fellow four‑legged friends. I’m Tessa Lockey and I’ve seen my fair share of weddings shared by so many of the lovely couples who get married here at Northside Farm and their beloved fur-babies.

From outdoor ceremonies to dance‑floor zoomies (don’t worry, I keep those under control), I’ve learned exactly what it takes to be the perfect canine guest. Since more couples are choosing to include their pets in their big day, I thought it was time to share my top tips for making sure every dog feels right at home.

  1. Look Your Best

Weddings are special occasions, and while no one expects us dogs to wear suits or sparkly dresses, a quick brush and tidy‑up go a long way. A clean coat, trimmed nails, and even a smart bow tie or floral collar can help you fit right in with the humans. Just make sure whatever you wear is comfortable; no one wants to spend the ceremony itching.

  1. Remember your manners

Northside Farm is wonderfully dog‑friendly, but that doesn’t mean we can run wild. I always recommend practising a few basic commands before the big day. “Sit,” “stay,” and “leave it” are especially useful when there are canapés involved. Trust me, humans get surprisingly protective over tiny food on sticks!

  1. Pack your favourite treats

Weddings can be long days, and having something familiar to nibble on helps keep you calm and happy. It’s also a good idea to bring your own water bowl so you can stay hydrated between all the excitement. Northside Farm has plenty of outdoor space for sniffing and exploring, but all that adventuring can make a dog thirsty.

  1. Plan your quiet time

Weddings are full of noise, laughter, music, and lots of new smells. It’s wonderful, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. I always suggest having a cosy spot set up somewhere slightly away from the action. Our on-site wigwams, fairytale cottages and larger cottage are all dog-friendly so you can bring your own blanket, bed, or even crate if that is your safe space. That way, if you need a little break, you’ve got somewhere familiar to retreat to. We also allow tents, campervans and caravans if your humans need additional accommodation!

  1. Photos

Humans absolutely love taking pictures of us, especially when we’re part of the wedding party. If you’re going to be in the official photos, try your best to sit still and look adorable. A tilted head or a gentle tail wag usually gets a big reaction. And don’t worry if you’re not perfect! The photographers here are used to working with dogs, and they always manage to capture our best angles.

  1. Enjoy yourself

Northside Farm is a beautiful place to spend the day, and being included in such a special moment is something to wag your tail about. Whether you’re walking down the aisle, greeting guests, or simply being part of the family photos, your presence adds something truly heart‑warming to the celebration.

So, there you have it! My top tips for being the perfect dog guest. I hope to see you soon at Northside Farm for a good old chin ‘wag’!
